Bacon vs Bacon Deathmatch
I like bacon, especially Mr. Benton’s variety:
What ho? Plebiscite brings us bacon-wrapped turducken, aka ‘Bacon Jacket’:
(Maybe Yat’s could get in on this, presuming you are legally allowed to deep-fry bacon?)
Not to be outdone, Germany brings us bacon-wrapped iPhones:
Now I am confused. Please help return bacon clarity:

How Flickr Sees The Missn
Flickr has taken geo-tagged photos and built maps of neighborhoods based on the geo-ids. Here’s the Mission:
Pretty accurate, all and all — the western edge is pretty interesting. But I’m glad to see some of the area south of Cesar Chavez recognized — sorry, no way that’s Bernal. I’d argue it’s The Mission all the way to 30th and back down San Jose/Guerrero. (SoCha? Not sure on that name though. I like “La Lengua” myself.)
I do like some of the borderland micro-hoods that Yahoo Maps names:
– Transmission (aka SoCha?)
– Baja Noe
– Mastro
– Somisspo?? (Um, OK…)
What else should be there? Two proposals:
– “El Corazón” — along 24th between Mission and Potrero, Cesar Chavez to 22nd
– “Hipster Valencia” — a block either side of Valencia (say San Jose/Linda to Bartlett/San Carlos?) between 24th and 17th
– “La Lengua” — Mission from Cesar Chavez to 30th, back down San Jose/Guerrero
UPDATE — a completely arbitrary map of the Mission and the above microhoods. Importantly, this includes two areas that should *not* be in the Mission.
Mission Street Food – MSF vs VSF?
I think highly of Allan over at Mission Mission, yet… Well, it’s hard to say, but we had our first difference of opinion. It saddens me to announce that Allan likes the MSF while I now prefer the VSF over at Mission Street Food. Duck is the new bacon, don’t get me wrong — I of course ordered MSF the first night in Lung Shan, and it was fantastic. But this last Thursday I picked up a VSF and, wow. No one was surprised more than me. So which is your favorite? Poll below.
Look, a collage *made* of panoramas… That’s some sort of meta.
That’s Ono Kauswa I spilled on my receipt (yes, I licked it off). Though doesn’t it kind of look like the head of a pig?
I Hate Vegas
…especially when I arrive at midnight and there’s a 4 hour wait at the MGM because their 14 year old reservation system crashed. (Hello, Venetian…)
But even without that, I just don’t like the place. Airport cab line, could you be longer? Monorail, could you be harder to use? Smoke, I think you gave me an eye infection.
But there is some interesting architecture and lighting in that town. Good thing for Panorama software to record the moment. Click to enlarge.

Unfortunately I was holding up the line and couldn’t panorama the right side of the case. One day, Cookies & Cream, Mint Chip, one day…
Hard to believe the SF+SJ railroad trestle bridge used to cross Dolores here.
Become a Burrito Taster!
Hell yes! Where do I sign up?
I am adding this to my resume — enough people at work ask me where to get burritos in San Francisco.

(Wait, isn’t this pretty much Burritophile?)
Mission Street Food New Digs
Burrito Justice thoroughly approves of the new MSF digs at 2234 Mission. (Click to zoom.)
My poa poa always said that duck smoked rice and ono soup are best enjoyed under the watchful eye of proletarian chinese horse art. And ships.
While I do miss the truck, the new location is great, the beer and wine were flowing rapidly and the MSF crew is growing bigger by the day. The Lung Shan staff were cool if not somewhat bewildered by the new crowd.
Oh, yeah, the food — it was so good that I forgot to take any pictures of it before I finished.
Ono Kauswe soup – damn good. MSF Rice – duck is as tasty as bacon.
Some great shots here by Jesse (who has an actual camera), and his excellent writeup as well.
Ginger and coconut make for some nice ice cream and the rather accurate fortune was lucky to make it out of the cookie alive.
“Everyone always appreciates the witty things you say out loud while watching television with your friends.”
Feel free to add your “fortune” that you received in your “cookie” to the “comments”.
On the way back, I passed the MSF’s original home. Looks like JtH has some work to do.
