Mission Loc@l Photo Exhibit, Thu May 7
Mission Loc@l (pronounced Loc-Atl) wears out shoe leather and take some great photos of the Mission. So many so, that they are having an exhibit at L’s Cafe on May 7th from 6-9PM. There’s a silent auction (note the dog practicing below).
UPDATE – Mission Local has won a Webby! Congratulations!
Proceeds go to more shoe leather (or Adidas rubber, as the case may be).
What New SF Street Food?
CremeBruleeCart: check. MagicCurryKart: check. AmuseBouche: check.
Yet StreetFoodSF thinks LA is beating us on the street food front. (I agree, if only by quantity, though I think NY is the real threat here.) Brittney asks what street food would you like to see in SF. (I add no value but to create a poll.)
(Editorial bias: Noodles, most definitely!) Feel free to add suggestions.
UPDATE – PollDaddy is lame and doesn’t show anyone but me the suggestions, arrrgh. So far:
If I can get a few more suggestions we can make a sweet 16 playoff bracket…
Indian Bento = SUCCESS
Flight delays while travelling with an infant = exhaustion and hunger. Get home at 8, no food in house, sadness. Open Racer 5 and contemplate food options. But what do I see on Twitter but a glorious tweet by @indianbento advertising Saturday Night Special bentos. Food problem solved!
Sure enough, a yellow mini cooper arrives at my door replete with steaming bento curry goodness. Bento boxed street food comes to me! I love this city.
Regular readers should not be surprised by the bento-rama. Click to zoom. (Note the most excellent explanatory labels for otherwise confused white people.)
Left: Maharaja chicken curry; Center: “Matar Paneer” organic peas and sauteed cottage cheese; Right: “Chana Masala” organic garbanzo curry (my favorite).
(Hey, cool reusable bento boxes! Hmm, wonder where I could take those?)
So keep in mind this isn’t your typical Indian take out. Minimum order is 5 — think of it as ordering a six pack of beer, you know you will have more than one. Pashmina’s primarily focusing on catering corporate lunches — guess what I am ordering at my next important lunch meeting (fuck you, turkey sandwich!) But throw a couple in your fridge/freezer and you will be happy later. And we all know it’s good to support local mobile food initiatives (especially when they arrive in a yellow mini cooper).
But oh would I ever love an IBPC (Indian Bento Push Cart) in Dolores Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon (preferably a bright yellow), or a food truck in the city some night…

Indian Bento = I Never Cook Again
Haven’t had this yet, but oh boy, I hope it is as good as it sounds — Indian Bento Boxes delivered in a yellow Mini Cooper.
“Indian bento boxes are delivered fresh in packages of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 50
meals per week, in microwavable, freezer-safe containers, and without
preservatives.”
Street food? Debatable, but this menu looks good enough that I’d totally eat it sitting on a curb. Hell, I’d eat it sitting on top of other lesser bento boxes. I know what I’m ordering for my next work meeting. Pizza and sandwiches are for suckas. (Except for Indian Pizza, which rocks.)
(Thanks SFmenuPages.)

Valencia (and 2oth?) Viva la pinturalution. That is one hell of a moustache. And a stare.
The shoes live, the milk stuggles? Iguanas? Amesia? Whaa? (Ahh, French, you are so not helping me with Spanish.)
The man also wore a mean hat:

Seriously — he is staring through the freakin’ camera, past the viewfinder and into the retina of the photographer.
That laser-like gaze and the bandoliers and you have an intimidating presence indeed. I need to perfect that stare for meetings at work.
