Shit Monster

As previously noted, some sort of animal is taking a giant crap in the same spot in my backyard each night. Needless to say I am not amused.

Long time readers of this blog may remember the advanced, military grade infrared technology I used to reveal last year’s mystery of the tomato monster.

Anyway, I’ve been deployed the IR at said shit spot and recording it (go EyeTV!)  Needless to say, scanning through 8 hours of two feet of my garden is not exactly compelling daily viewing and I’ve been putting it off.  But what do I discover as I watch a week’s worth of my garden?  ANIMAL EVIDENCE.

So… we have whiskers. Is this a cat? A racoon? A beaver? A sea lion cub?  Such mysteries behold gardens in La Lengua. Please let me know your opinion.

    Holy shit.
Looks like we’ve finally found where those Shitty Kitty cutouts someone’s been jacking from Shotwell’s have turned up!

I thought ‘possum too. Are there possums in SF? If not, then raccoon.

I just hope it’s not a rat. The camera is about 6 inches off the ground, and that would be a damn big rat.

I vote raccoon. Possums move too slowly I think. We had a neighbor once who perched on a kitchen stool all night trying to ring us (we were out till dawn) because she was being held captive by a huge possum hanging from her 4-poster bed rail. So we arrive home at like 4:30 and she screams for help. I found the Possum hiding in our neighbor’s stuffed animal collection, just like ET. Panning with the flashlight, there was like stuffed this, stuffed that, then… hey wait a minute! We made a chute from stuff and it sauntered its way out the door, very slowly. The raccoons (this was twin peaks btw, where deer actually still roamed into the 1960’s) were much more aggressive and often had to be chased away with a garden hose.

Possums have a more rat like tail, and this creature has a furry tail. Raccoons have stripy tails and I didn’t see any stripes. So cat? Maybe a feral one?

What’s the size of it’s scat? Not sure if you’d care to post a picture of that…

Otherwise, maybe it’s a pine marten.

    Hey, pine martens are cute!

I’m in La Lengua, 29th and Mission. Does Butch know how to make a transfer?
