Concrete Marks The Mission

January 1, 2009

Contractor #1: “Crap, we’re out of N’s.”

Contractor #2: “Use half a W.”

Contractor #1: “I *already* used the W for the M.”

Contractor #2: “Crap. Do we have any Z’s we can rotate?”

Contractor #1: “No — they’re with the crew on Cesar Chavez.”

Contractor #2: “Crap crap CRAP. Hey, I know! We just finished Valencia — use that V, and then use another upside-down V!”

Contractor #1: “Dude, you are a genius.”

(10 minutes later…) Contractor 2: “Dude, are you dyslexic?”

Contractor #1: “Looks kind of cool, actually — italexic!”

Meanwhile, further down Mission…

I’ve seen those misprints in concrete many places. Outside my house, Powhattan is stamped Powhatton.

I wonder if there’s some organized conspiracy since it seems, well, common.

You’ve seen that one at 23rd and Shotwell (I think) that says “23th,” right?

Wow, that takes it to an entirely new level. It’s almost philosophical.
