La Lengua Wins The Internet!

March 25, 2011

Why, what do we have here?

¡Viva La Lengua! ¡Viva La Lengua Asignada!

Fret not if you can’t immediately see it — the LaLeReMaCo (La Lengua Revolutionary Mapping Council) is rolling out the map tiles across servers worldwide as we speak.

Now’s a good time to freshen up on the Revolutionary Anthem of La Lengua.

It’s probably thanks to the same Google NIMBYs that prevent Streetview from covering the neighborhood.

Clearly you have not been paying attention. Look again at the map. It is blatantly La Lengua.

It’s amazing how “One Man’s Lonely Quest” turns to “Fact Because It’s Right There On Google Maps.”

Step 2 wouldn’t have happened if it were just me shaking my fist at the sky. La Lengua obviously resonated with folks other than the Burrito Justice land grant committee.

I wonder when the big check from Google will arrive! :-)

It’s Photoshopped, right? Doesn’t show up here. And I proudly live in La Lengua.

Absolutely not. It just looks like takes some time for the new map tiles to propagate through Google’s many servers.

Also seems browser specific – I see it in Safari but not Firefox or mobile clients.

I can see it on Firefox for Mac. Good for you. What’s your next conquest? I hope it’s renaming nopa.

Congrats! I see it on Firefox for Mac, too. Kind of freaky that when you bring up San Francisco, CA on google maps, La Lengua is one of a few neighborhoods that pop up (no Mission, Castro, Potrero Hill, or Soma by the way). One can only assume that nearby ‘hoods have been swallowed by the tongue (to choke a metaphor).

Those who write the history are indeed victorious!

FYI, I had never heard of La Lengua till I saw its prominence on Google maps, got curious and Googled it, and ended up here. (I live within a block of the tip of LL) Congrats!
