A software company. I can just walk in off the street and buy some point-of-purchase software development for Christmas? Just like that architecture store on Val near 18th. I just love walking in off the street and buying some architecture.

We have enough places that sell interesting or useful products, or ehich provide walk-in services.

How about a lawyer store? Or a medical testing shoppe? That would be great on Valencia, really great in a storefront.

Maybe all the displaced storefront retail/services/craft/repair businesses can move into the top floors of vacant office buildings in SOMA where the architects and software companies should to be?

This city is so fucking upside down.

I read that article, and can't help noticing how many restaurants were included (despite the ridiculous length of time the pending restaurants have waited for permits). Maybe they're hoping to benefit from having a critical mass or something. The new Borderlands Cafe has opened and actually looks nice, though I'm not sure if I'm pleased or disappointed that it isn't filled with gothy knicknacks.

I miss having a plant nursery now that Palm Broker/Flora Grubb has moved. We don't have an electronics store other than Radio Shack, which hardly counts. A housewares shop would be nice, something in-between the plastic junk on Mission and the pricey kitchenware in Noe. A custom cabinets/carpentry/refinishing shop. A sporting goods store that carries more than soccer balls and jerseys. A pottery or other made-on-premises useful items would be cool. More kids stuff, especially for the 9-12 crowd that's always harder to find things for. I could go on, I just think of anything I'd have to leave the Mission for now.
